Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most. If yours is not here, use the contact page.
What is ChartBasis?
A free website that presents economic indicators for around 200 countries, with charts showing how each figure has changed over time. It covers inflation, growth, unemployment, policy rates, bond yields, exchange rates and commodity prices.
Where does the data come from?
Directly from official sources: the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, Eurostat, the European Central Bank, the US Treasury, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Bank of England. The About page lists what comes from where.
How often is the data updated?
As each source publishes new figures. Different indicators are released on different schedules: some daily, some monthly, and many only annually. The release calendar shows what is due in the coming days.
Is ChartBasis free?
Yes. There are no accounts, subscriptions or advertisements.
Is this financial advice?
No. ChartBasis provides information only. Please do not make investment decisions based solely on what you read here, and consider speaking to a qualified professional.
Why is a figure missing, out of date or different from another site?
Statistical agencies publish with a delay, revise earlier figures, and do not collect every indicator for every country. A different value elsewhere usually reflects a different release, a revision or a different definition. If you think we have made a mistake, please tell us through the contact page.
What are the dashed lines and shaded areas on the charts?
Dashed lines inside a shaded band are projections, not observations. They come from the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook and can change whenever the IMF publishes new forecasts. Grey bands behind a line mark periods of recession.
Which languages are supported?
English, Spanish, Japanese, German and French. Use the language menu in the page header to switch; you stay on the same page.
Does ChartBasis use cookies or track me?
ChartBasis sets no cookies of its own and runs no advertising trackers, but the footer's Google “Add as Preferred Source” button is loaded from Google. Google Analytics runs in Google's Consent Mode: without your consent it sends only anonymous, cookie-free measurements; if you accept it in the banner, it also sets cookies. Our servers keep ordinary access logs for a short time to keep the site running and secure. The contact page uses Google reCAPTCHA to deter spam. The Privacy Policy explains all of this in detail.
