Privacy Policy
We collect as little as we can. This policy explains what we do collect, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version
You can read ChartBasis without an account and without giving us any personal information. We run no advertising trackers and set no cookies of our own, but the footer's Google “Add as Preferred Source” button is loaded from Google on every page. We use Google Analytics in Google's Consent Mode: until you accept in the banner shown on the site (and if you decline), it sends Google only anonymous, cookie-free measurements (the page, your IP address, and browser and device details) and sets no cookies; if you accept, it also sets cookies and measures visits in more detail. The only personal information we handle is what your browser sends with every web request, and anything you choose to send us through the contact form.
Information we handle
Visiting the site: your browser sends your IP address, the page you request, the time, and details such as your browser type and preferred language. This is how the web works and is necessary to deliver the page to you.
Contacting us: if you use the contact form, we receive the email address and message you enter, and the topic you choose.
Server logs
Our web servers record each request (IP address, time, page requested, response code and browser type) in standard access logs. We use them only to operate the site, investigate faults and defend against abuse. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors or to advertise to you.
Your location (optional)
Country pages have an optional "economies near me" feature. It runs only if you click its button and your browser then asks for your permission. If you agree, your coordinates are sent to our server to find the nearest places. We do not save them, but because they are part of the request address they can appear in the server logs described above until those are deleted. If you refuse permission, nothing is sent.
The contact form
When you send a message, we email it to the site operator and reply to you at the address you provide. We do not store messages in a database or add your address to any mailing list. A copy remains in the mailbox that receives it, and we keep correspondence only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, unless the law requires otherwise. The message is sent through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Email Delivery.
Google reCAPTCHA
The contact page uses Google reCAPTCHA to tell people from automated spam. It loads only on that page. When it runs, Google receives information about your device and browser, your IP address and how you interact with the widget, and may set or read cookies, in order to provide the service. Google's use of that information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Apart from the footer's “Add as Preferred Source” button (see Cookies and similar technologies) and Google Analytics (which runs in Consent Mode, as described under Cookies and similar technologies), no other page on ChartBasis loads anything from Google.
Cookies and similar technologies
ChartBasis itself sets no cookies. The “Add as Preferred Source” button in the footer is loaded from Google on every page, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads and may set or read cookies for it. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics also sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier) to tell visits apart and sends usage data (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser) to Google; we store your choice in your browser's local storage and you can change it at any time with "Analytics settings" in the footer. If you decline or do not answer, Google Analytics sets no cookies and sends only cookie-free measurements, from which Google may estimate visits. Our network provider, Cloudflare, may set a security cookie while it filters abusive traffic. Google reCAPTCHA, described above, may set cookies on the contact page.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of service providers to run the site: Cloudflare (content delivery and security, which sees web requests before they reach our servers), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (hosting, database and email delivery) and Google (reCAPTCHA on the contact page, the “Add as Preferred Source” button in the footer of every page, and Google Analytics, which sends cookie-free measurements without your consent and sets cookies if you accept it). They process data on our behalf and under their own terms. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. Some of these providers are located in, or process data in, the United States and other countries.
How long we keep it
Web server access logs are rotated daily and deleted after about 14 days. Cloudflare and our other providers keep data according to their own policies. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, including under California law and the data protection laws of the European Union and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to or limit certain processing. To make a request, use the contact page. We will respond within the time the law requires, and we will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Because we keep so little, there is often nothing to find: the server logs described above are the most likely thing, and they are deleted automatically after a short time. If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California privacy law, and we do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals because we do not track visitors.
Children
ChartBasis is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will publish the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is significant we will make that clear on the site.
